A Brief Introduction

Hi readers …

My name is Kathryn and I’m new to the Bay Area Mama team. I thought I would introduce myself to you before I start sharing my own Bay Area view here.

I’m based right in the city, in the lower Pacific Heights neighborhood, which I love. I moved here in 2006 from Arizona but I swear that this city was always my home. I can’t imagine ever leaving. There are many things that I adore about San Francisco but most of all I love the constant creative spirit that pervades everything that anyone does here from parenting to technology, fashion to education.

I am passionate about exploring that creativity. I believe wholeheartedly that pushing the edges of our own thinking is always beneficial to us and those around us. I love that San Francisco celebrates that and I want to celebrate it, too. I’ll be doing that here on the blog primarily by sharing the crafty side of the Bay Area with an emphasis on the crochet happenings here.

I fell in love with crochet a few years ago. For me it’s a form of self-expression, a place where I’ve found a community, an addition to personal style and even a tool for healing. I write about the topic in general on my main blog, Crochet Concupiscence. Here I’ll be sharing what’s happening with it in the Bay Area and why I think that matters to the larger community. You’ll find information on art events that include fiber arts, community meet-ups for the crafty-minded, craft fairs from Maker Faire and Renegade Craft Fair to the smaller neighborhood events, street style from urban folks incorporating crochet into their style and more.

I hope that you’ll enjoy this foray into the intersection of craft, art and fashion in the Bay Area that I hope to explore here. I look forward to connecting with you!
