Fall is one of my favorite seasons. Living in the Sacramento region, nothing celebrates the harvest as well as a visit to the 2012 Apple Hill Season.
Acres upon acres of apple orchards, tree farms, pumpkin patches, and wineries all bask in the idyllic hills of Placerville and Camino, nestled off of highway 50. Our daughters love riding the horses, running through hay mazes, and visiting the craft and artisan booths.
My husband and I love the food. My favorite pie of all time is apple, and at Apple Hill you’ll find pumpkin, apple, buttermilk apple, blueberry apple, dutch apple, and more. It’s apple pie heaven. Then there are apple donuts, apple fritters, caramel apples, and fresh apples of every variety to purchase. Let’s not forget the BBQ, fudge, apple butter, and honey available too. Oh, man. I’m making myself drool.
Most farms open Labor Day weekend. Go early, beat the heat and crowds. Most places take credit cards, but it’s a good idea to bring cash to make purchases easy peasy. Have a great 2012 Apple Hill Season.
