Disney Cars Land Fun and Tips

I don’t know about you, but I’m already over with the school mode, and in full-on in summer mode. The worst part is, there are still six weeks left of school. I suppose the bright side is, it’s six weeks to plan out fun activities for the summer. I actually quite like planning.

If you’re looking for somewhere fun to go this summer, Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park is where it’s at. Our family recently visited the Disney Cars Land on spring break. Our daughters made a list of places and things they wanted to do, and Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park were on the list. We weren’t quite sure if we could swing it with my husband’s work schedule, but we got lucky.

We’d heard from everyone how amazing the Disney Cars Land, and the Radiator Springs Racers at Disney California Adventure Park were, and couldn’t wait to see it for ourselves. According to locals, the Radiator Springs Racers ride has been the most popular ride since it opened. Locals say that lines can be as long as three hours, and it’s been that way since November. So I was grateful to find out some tips from friends on how to make sure we got a chance to ride the Radiator Springs Racers on our visit.

We were told we needed to enter the park as soon as it opened. From there, you could high-tail it to the ride line, or rush to the fast pass line. We entered Disney California Adventure Park at about 8:15am. The park opened at 8am the morning we visited. I ran all the way to the entrance of Bugs Land, where the fast passes were distributed, only to find a line that wended its way all the way to the Hyperion theater. So I got in line, a bit sweaty, but kind of glad I got a frenetic morning jog in.  I’m the more patient-in-lines person between my husband and I, and I told my husband to take the girls on some Disney Cars Land rides. In the 40 minutes I was in line, my husband was able to take the girls on Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree, and were waiting in line for me at Luigi’s Flying Tires. By the time I got to the fast pass tickets for Radiator Springs Racers, the ticket time we had was for a 4:30pm return.

I felt like a victorious woman after getting those tickets. The key ride we wanted to go on was secured. I slid those precious tickets into my wallet, and joined my family in line for Luigi’s Flying Tires. In fact, when I met up with my family in line, I even had time to take my youngest to the bathroom. Remember to ask for a pass from one of Disney’s friendly staffers when you exit the ride for the bathroom. This will let you get back in line through the exit. The  Luigi ride is novel. The ride isn’t fast. You’re floating in a big tire, and you use your balance and weight to move it in one direction to another. I found leaning back was the easiest way to move with my daughter.

The ride the girls loved most in Cars Land, other than the Radiator Springs Racers  was Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree. They were able to go on the ride five times over the course of two days. Mater is already a fan-favorite, a lovable character, and thankfully the line moved along. The girls were able to “tow-si-tow” to the music while waiting. My oldest, who is eight, preferred having a little tow truck swing her around, rather than have one of us ride with her. Seeing her unrestrained laughter made Mater one of my favorites too. Unlike the tea cups in Disneyland, which I refuse to go on due to my natural aging process, Mater’s tow trucks move in such a way that is highly enjoyable and not nausea inducing. We highly recommend it.

When the time came for us to ride the much-anticipated Radiator Springs Racers we couldn’t wait. With our fast passes in hand, we stepped into line with the rest of the fast pass holders. After a shorter bit of waiting than those without fast passes, we buckled into our car. (A little note, if you want to speed on through the line, there is a single-rider line that will get you through faster, and you’ll likely get to ride it more than once.) While in line, there are ample opportunities to marvel at the scenery and find photo opportunities. After a little calm ride through the movie themes, the race takes off. Our entire family loved it. The speed, the scenery, the novelty of racing against another car — was magic. Our only complaint? We wanted, nay, needed, a longer ride.

When I first heard Disney was creating Cars Land, I thought it would only appeal to little boys like my nephews. They are obsessed with Cars the movie and all the toys. I didn’t think that it would appeal to my family with our two daughters. Let me just admit, I was wrong. Disney captured us all with the attention to detail and the fun that everyone of all ages can have. I’m impressed. Even my husband, who is often a bit of a cynic, loved Cars Land. We can’t wait to go back.

Disney provided four one-day park-hopper tickets for my family to visit Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park. All opinions, and fun had, are our own.
